This will be an informal, roundtable style dinner meeting with a ‘lessons learned’ general discussion of HVAC design best practices. To set the tone, the meeting will begin with Tom Beatty, P.E. speaking about his experiences throughout his engineering career with Munson Medical Center.

Speaker:

Tom Beatty is a licensed mechanical engineer with 40 years of HVAC design experience. He has a BSME from Michigan Tech and experience with Tower Pinkster Tower Associates, Rhoades Engineering and 30 years with Munson Medical Center. Tom has designed a wide variety of mechanical systems with many unique requirements across dozens of facilities in Northern Michigan.

This list includes (7) hospitals, Foster Family Community Health Center, Munson Hospice House, Munson Dialysis, Munson Data Center, Munson Family Practice, 210 Brook St. Crisis Center, Building 29 (former State Hospital Building), Little Traverse Primary care in Harbor Springs, Petoskey Community Health Center (scheduled to open in October), and others.  Tom ran a retro-commissioning program for Munson Medical Center and was the LEED commissioning process for Cowell Family Cancer Center. From 2008-2020, he was responsible for a series of energy studies and resulting energy saving projects, primarily at Munson Medical Center. 

Tom often coordinates and even designs electrical and architectural aspects of projects, depending on the complexity. He is typically the hospital’s owner’s representative for facility construction projects. He also has the very unique perspective watching these system perform throughout the test of time. Lastly, Tom is a former ASHRAE West Michigan Board Member and coordinated the Northern Chapter (TC) meetings and Salmon Fishing Extravaganza for nearly a decade. Needless to say, his insights will be invaluable to those in attendance!
