TOPIC:

Transforming an Existing Building Into a High-Performing Facility

Most buildings, new or old, do not perform anywhere near their most efficient potential. HVAC systems deteriorate with time. Find out what to look for relative to improving the efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems in a building, learn how to do it at minimum cost by taking advantage of incentives and rebates, and learn how to keep it performing at its potential to save your owner operating and utility costs. The presentation can be modified for joint meetings with building owners and facility managers, USGBC and IFMA chapters, and design-build and service contractors.

SPEAKER:

Jim Newman has been an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer since 2010 and became an ASHRAE Fellow in 2021. He was a principal contributor to ASHRAE’s 2008 Energy Position Document and served as Vice-Chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.2 (Industrial Air Conditioning). He is currently a corresponding member of multiple ASHRAE technical committees, including the team that authored the new “Climate
Change” chapter in the 2021 ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals.

With decades of experience in energy efficiency, HVAC design, and IAQ, Jim presents regularly on high-performance building strategies. His presentations—delivered worldwide—span both technical and non-technical audiences, covering topics such as LEED Certification, decarbonization, electrification, and sustainability and resiliency.

Jim’s work has been recognized with numerous awards and published in leading trade journals and technical magazines. His latest article, “Sustainability and Resiliency in the Era of Climate Change,” appeared in the September 2021 issue of Building Operating Management magazine.
